As beautiful timber is a rare natural resource, we should appreciate the time the timber has taken to grow, be
processed, dried and crafted into a unique piece of artwork.

Company Profile & History

RUSTIN’S UK

Rustin's origins go back to 1924 when Sidney Rustin opened his first shop selling wood finishing products to local residents & trades-people.

After 85 years the company remains a family run & owned business and now employs over 100 people.

In 1947 Rustin's produced the "Handy Polish Kit" - the first kit of it's kind for the DIY market. Rustin's was also the first to manufacture products such as Danish Oil, Liquid Wallpaper Remover and Plastic Coating.

The company is looking to the future to develop exciting new products that satisfy a consumer need for greater choice and environmental awareness.

RUSTIN’S HISTORY in AUSTRALIA

On a business trip to the UK In 1979 Len Smith met with Ronnie Rustin, owner of Rustin's and after some discussion the first small pallet of assorted Rustin’s products was exported to Australia.

Len used these products for his own woodturning & French polishing restoration work. After discovering the high quality of Rustin’s, Len began to demonstrate and sell the products through his teaching & woodwork supply business.

Now over 30 years on Len Smith still owns and operates his Australian family owned  business The Woodsmith Pty Ltd in Melbourne.

Len's son Phillip now manages "Rustin's Australia" a division of The Woodsmith Pty Ltd, which remains the appointed sole Australian Importer and Distributor of the range of Rustin’s quality woodfinishes, with outlets throughout Australia.
